SELF-SUSTAINED TEMPORARY VILLAGES IN NORTHERN SUDAN
Statement of Purpose
The goal of this project is to establish villages that can help Sudanese refugees settle till the country recovers from the current crisis. The villages will be established closed to the River Nile in Northern Sudan to provide a semi-temporary housing for kids, women and families. Refugees can easily live in these villages for 3 years or more.

Background
The situation in Sudan is indeed dire, with millions affected by the ongoing crisis. The displacement of over two million people to neighboring countries like Egypt highlights the urgent need for humanitarian assistance. Those trapped in urban areas face severe living conditions, exacerbating their vulnerability. The World Food Program's reports on widespread starvation underscore the critical nature of the crisis, which is considered the largest humanitarian disasters in the 21st century. Immediate international support and coordinated relief efforts are essential to address the needs of those affected and to provide sustainable solutions for recovery.
Objectives
The objectives of this project are not only to improve living conditions for refugees but also promote self-sufficiency and community resilience. The objectives include:
-
Shelter Provision: Create safe housing for refugees to alleviate overcrowding in urban areas, thereby reducing the spread of life-threatening diseases like cholera.
-
Economic Opportunities: Enable refugees to sustain themselves through activities like fishing, animal husbandry, and farming. Offer vocational training in trades such as plumbing and construction to enhance their skills.
-
Educational Access: Ensure that children have the opportunity to continue their education, providing a stable and nurturing environment for learning.
-
Support for Overseas Sudanese: Lighten the burden on Sudanese individuals abroad who have been supporting their compatriots by providing direct assistance to refugees.
-
Community Integration: Relocate some refugees to rural areas, facilitating support for those still in cities and fostering a sense of community and cooperation among displaced individuals. This work can be the beginning of establishing a working productive community in this area.
-
Once refugees move back to their homes, these houses can be the dwelling of workers for large agricultural or livestock projects
C. Work Plan:
This project not only aims to provide immediate relief but also focuses on long-term sustainability and empowerment for refugees. By integrating essential services and promoting self-sufficiency to set the foundation for a thriving community.
Volunteers of engineers and architects will be helping in laying the foundations of this project. The key items in this project are:
-
Housing Structure:
-
Prefabricated Houses: Import from Turkey or China and assemble locally. Provide training for Sudanese workers on assembly techniques.
-
-
Foundation (if applicable):
-
Concrete Foundations: Constructed by local Sudanese workers to ensure stability and durability

-
Septic Systems: Implement septic tanks for waste management, with one central unit for every ten houses. Each house will have its own bathroom connected to this system.
-
-
Kitchens:
-
Centralized Cooking Facilities: Establish communal kitchens for every ten houses, accessible 24/7 to ensure safe food preparation.
-
-
Energy:
-
Solar Power: Utilize solar energy with a detailed study to determine the best design for the village's needs.
-
-
Water Supply:
-
Filtered Water Station: Build a filtration system to provide clean drinking water for all residents.
-
-
Maintenance:
-
Training Programs: Teach refugees self-sufficiency in maintenance and village upkeep, fostering a sense of community responsibility.

The Financial Cost of Setting a Model Village
Due to the complexity of the project and fluctuating market conditions, providing an exact cost estimate is challenging. Factors include material availability, labor costs, and potential logistical issues.
Non-profit organizations and NGOs are encouraged to adopt or support this project to help support a significant number of refugees. Their involvement can provide essential resources, expertise, and funding to make this initiative a reality.
We invite organizations and foundations to join us in this critical effort to provide shelter, education, and economic opportunities for those affected by the crisis in Sudan. Together, we can create a sustainable and supportive environment for refugees.
With the support of NGOs and the community, this project can significantly improve the lives of many refugees, providing them with safety, stability, and a path toward self-sufficiency.
